A Cat Petting Chart In The USA

Who’s Really Winning the War on Cats? A Cat Petting Chart in the USA

There are lots of charts out there that compare the populations of dogs and cats in the United States, but they’re all pretty vague. Here’s one that breaks down how many pet cats and dogs there are by county and state. Some interesting things to note from this cat petting chart in the USA…

Alaska only has 2 counties, but it still has more cat pets than Hawaii does! The most popular cat breed varies a lot by state, but Maine clearly loves Maine Coons! What else can you learn from this cat petting chart in the USA?

Introduce Yourself

I’m a self-proclaimed cat lady. I’ve always loved cats, and I currently have three of my own. When I saw this chart on the internet, I was surprised by how much it revealed about the state of cat ownership in the United States.

While there are nearly 90 million cats owned in the United States, and more than 40% of households have at least one cat, cats are still vastly outnumbered by dogs. According to figures from 2017 published by American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), there are only about 74 million dog pets as compared to 88 million cats. However, when you look at percentages of pet ownership in a different way, it turns out that almost two-thirds of all homes have either a dog or a cat—but not both.

How much does your home smell like cat(s)?

We all know that one person who is really into cats. You know, the one with the house full of them that always smells faintly of litter. Or maybe you are that person. Either way, we can all agree that cats are some of the most popular pets in the world. In fact, according to a recent study, there are more pet cats in the United States than there are dogs. But what does this mean for our furry friends?

Why do you pet cats?

For some, it’s a way to show love and affection. For others, it’s a way to relieve stress or simply because they enjoy the sensation. Regardless of the reason, there’s no denying that cats are one of the most popular pets in the world. In fact, according to a recent study, there are more pet cats in the United States than there are dogs.

Do you make friends with other owners of cats, local shelter staff or volunteers, etc.?

In order to get an accurate petting chart, we need to know where cat owners get their cats. The most popular place is from friends, family, or another owner, according to a recent survey. Other popular places include local shelters, breeders, and online retailers.

If you’re taking your cat to other homes, you should be sure that all cats are up-to-date on their shots and spayed or neutered. Be sure to let friends and family know that they’ll need to keep up with their vaccinations, too. Unfortunately, many cat owners believe they will only bring cats home if they get them from a shelter or rescue group.

If you’re thinking about getting a cat, congratulations! You’re about to embark on one of the most rewarding relationships you’ll ever have. But before you bring your new feline friend home, there are a few things you should know.

Here are a few tips for first-time cat owners:

  • Get to know your local shelter or rescue organization. They can help you find the perfect cat for your lifestyle and personality.
  • Consider what kind of litter you want to use.

What do you wish someone had told you when you first got a cat(s)?

I wish someone had told me that cats are smarter than dogs, and they train you instead of the other way around. I also wish I’d known that cats like to be petted, but only on their terms. If you’re not paying attention, they’ll let you know with a sharp claw or tooth. And finally, I wish someone had told me that cats are independent creatures who will do things their own way, no matter what you try to do to stop them.

Do you want more cats (e.g., breed/species that aren’t popular enough/available locally)? If so, what would it take to get more cats (e.g., experience, knowledge)?

In order to get more cats, you would need to either have experience with or learn about breeding and raising them. This includes learning about their nutritional needs, socialization requirements, and any other special care they may need. You would also need to find a source for the cats, which can be difficult depending on the breed or species you’re looking for. Finally, you would need to be prepared to provide a forever home for all of the cats you bring into your life.

Favorite breeds of cats

In the United States, the most popular breeds of cats are Persians, Maine Coons, and Siamese. However, there are many other breeds of cats that are just as loved. Some of these include the American Shorthair, British Shorthair, and Ragdoll.

Each cat has its own unique personality, so there’s no best breed. Whether you want a playful, affectionate cat or a more aloof breed, there’s a perfect match for every owner out there. Remember to consider your lifestyle and family when looking for your new pet because they may determine whether an indoor or outdoor cat is best suited for you.

Has your relationship with your feline companions changed over time? If so, how and why has it changed?

I’m not sure when the war on cats began, but I do know that it’s been waged for centuries. In the United States, the war has been fought on two fronts: between those who see cats as vermin and those who see them as beloved pets. The latest battleground is the internet, where a new generation of cat lovers are using social media to promote their furry friends.

As I was preparing to write today’s post, I checked my email and Twitter accounts. There was a message from a reader who asked if there are any hard numbers that prove cats are being displaced by dogs as America’s favorite pet. Is it true, he wanted to know, that cat populations have dropped sharply since 1990s?
